PMU While Pregnant & Breastfeeding

Permanent make up is a GREAT option for busy mommas! However, we cannot perform permanent makeup services while pregnant and here’s why…

BB Glow Skin Care Regina

Having a permanent makeup service while breastfeeding is possible, but not advised. Due to hormone levels, pigment retention will likely be impaired. Clients are urged to be extremely diligent with aftercare instructions to avoid an infection. We also advise a “pump & dump” following the procedure to ensure milk is not compromised. We generally advise waiting for 6 weeks after breast feeding is discontinued for hormones to balance.

It’s always best to be cautious while being pregnant and or breastfeeding and just wait those extra few months for safety & beautiful healed results!

  • During pregnancy, facial tissue can be distorted due to swelling & fluid retention which would interfere with a nice symmetrical shape once baby is born

  • Anytime you are breaking the skin, there is a risk of infection- we would never want to put you or your baby at risk

  • The skin is extremely sensitive while pregnant so the service would not be very comfortable

  • Facial skin may be more susceptible to pigment darkening while pregnant so the trauma to the skin during the procedure may result in hyper-pigmentation

  • Skin may be resistant to accepting the pigment or the pigment could heal an undesirable colour due to the increase in hormonal changes and fluctuations

  • Hormone levels also affect blood circulation which can cause excessive bleeding leading to patchy/uneven results

  • There is a slight possibility that some ladies can faint while being pregnant and this would not be ideal while tattooing

  • Most cosmetic tattooists will use some form of anesthetic and numbing cream prior and during procedures. These will absorb into the skin and may enter into the blood stream

  • There is not enough known about the effects of tattoo pigment on the growing baby to ensure safety
